Morissette
Canadian born, Pianist and guitarist.
Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian-American[1] alternative rock singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actress. Morissette began her career in Canada when she signed a two-album recording contract with MCA Records Canada where she released two commercially successful dance-pop albums, Alanis (1991) and Now Is the Time (1992). Following the release of the albums Morissette left MCA Records Canada and was introduced to manager Scott Welch. Morissette began working on new music, after moving from her hometown of Ottawa to Toronto, but did not make much progress until travelling to Los Angeles, where she met Glen Ballard.
Together the pair began creating what would become Jagged Little Pill, and by the spring of 1995, she had signed a deal with Maverick Records. Jagged Little Pill was a departure from Morissette’s previous work and featured rock genres. Released in 1995 Jagged Little Pill was a huge success and sold more than 33 million units globally. Her following album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, was released in 1998.
Morissette took up producing duties for her subsequent albums, which include Under Rug Swept (2002), So-Called Chaos (2004), and Flavors of Entanglement (2008). Her eighth studio album, Havoc and Bright Lights, was released in 2012. Morissette has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. Morissette is also known for her powerful and emotive mezzo-soprano voice. She has been dubbed by Rolling Stone as the “Queen of alt-rock angst”.
Morissette is a dual-citizen Canadian -American singer-songwriter, record producer, and occasional actress.
Alanis has a twin brother, Wade, and an older brother, Chad. At the age of six, she began playing the piano and realised she wanted to express herself through the arts.
At a New York City audition, Morissette landed a spot on Star Search, a popular American talent competition on which she used her stage name, Alanis Nadine.
Morissette flew to Los Angeles to appear on the show, but lost after one round. In 1988, Morissette signed a publishing deal with MCA Publishing, which helped to fund her record deal with one of its independent subsidiary labels
She has won twelve Juno Awards and seven Grammy Awards, and has sold more than sixty million albums worldwide.
Recorded her first singl in 1986 named ’FATE STAYED’ but
no impression was made.
Moved to Toronto writing songs for other artists which led
later to a partnership with Glen Ballard.
Moving once again to Los Angeles the release in 1995
of her debut Album ’JAGGERED LITTLE PILL’.
Nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; the music video, which featured Morissette nude, generated mild controversy.
Jagged Little Pill, which is the best-selling debut album by a female artist in the U.S., and the highest selling debut album worldwide in music history.
Her appeal to many shows with her record sales exceeding 40 Million.
