New bust of legendary Australian guitarist to be unveiled in January The fifth bronze bust of an Australian country music pioneer, Barry Thornton, will be unveiled in Tamworth’s Bicentennial Park on Monday, January 21, 2008. Barry Thornton
An Australian guitarist.
Barry can be credited with his origiality in his style of playing lead guitar.
Inducted into “The Country Music Roll of Renoun” in the fifties.
Known for playing with the Slim Dusty Sow for 19 years.
He has worked as a singer and recorded his first solo instrumental, “Talking Guitar” released as one of the first extended play recordings in 1970.
Inducted into “The Country Music Hands of Fame” in 1981.
He moved to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in the eighties.
Barry played guitar up until he died at the age of 68 years.
