Bill Schapel was one of South Australia’s formost drummers through the sixties through to 2014.

Bill began his career in the sixties with many bands such as “Benjamin Courtenay” which became one of Adelaides main bands during the seventies.

BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE

Bill Schapel

Bill began his career in the sixties with many bands such as “Benjamin Courtenay” which became one of Adelaides main bands during the seventies. He also formed “Ben”, another group that followed after “Benjamin Courtenay” as drummer and vocalist of both groups.

He also followed Motor Sports with a passion, competing in his Historic 1947 MG race car. He was also has been Australian Hillclimb Champion in his class. Bill was also a teacher at Urrbrae Agricultural High School teaching mainly English.
He was the drummer of Adelaide’s “5AA Rock & Roll Allstars” playing the Adelaide scene. He also played with Adelaide’s “Muscat”, one of Adelaide’s favorite groups during the seventies and eighties.

We were sad to have to hear that Bill passed away in September 2014. He fought a great fight but in the end it was all too much and he can now rest peacefully.

The celebration of his wonderful life was held on Friday 19/9 at 2pm at the Sporting Car Club of SA, 51 King William Rd, Unley, South Australia.
