Billy O’Rourke

An Australian vocalist, guitarist.

Billy was a pioneer of rock and roll in Melbourne.

During the late fifties Billy performed in Melbourne and and also around Victoria when he began his career.

His act was known to be wild on stage with movements that attracted attention from the audience etc.

He would eventually perform on radio and national television, notably “Six O’Clock Rock” with Johnny O’Keefe.

He was invited to record for the “Rex” label with his backing group “The Thunderbirds”.

He recorded Running Bear” and other popular songs of the time.

O’Rourke joinee the Australian Army which included active service in Vietnam.

There he met Australian pop idol Normie Rowe. They both fought side by side during their stint in the region.

They remained close friends and both performing at Veitnam reunions with the band “The Allstars”.

Billy developed a ‘Johnny O’Keefe Tribute Show” with the Allstars group as advised by entrepreneur, Ian B. Allen.
