Buddy England

Buddy England (born in England), was a former member of The Seekers, replacing Bruce Woodley and stayed with them from 1975–1981. He was also a member of the Mixtures from June 1969 – March 1970.

As a solo artist from 1963–1969 he released several singles on HMV Records, including “If You’ll Stay”, “Doll House”, “There Goes My Baby”, “Movin’ Man”, “Sunny”, “I’m Going For You”, and “If I Never Get To Love You”. “Movin’ Man” was used in an advertisement for Gilbey’s gin.

From 1967 through 1979 Buddy returned to the UK and continued writing and recording for EMI at Abbey Road, releasing several singles, including Forgive and Forget, The Name of My Sorrow, Wonderful World, In Need of a Friend etc. From 1970−1971 England owned and launched Air Records and produced all of its artists including The Vibrants, Love Story, Tadpole, Mick Hamilton, The Tangerine Balloon, and Tony Pantano.

He was integral to The Seekers, upon their reformation in 1974, recording their first return album for Astor Records.

Buddy still writes and records on his farm on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia. A few years ago Buddy released Fate’s a Fiddler, Life’s a Dance with the majority of the material on this album written and produced by Buddy.

Buddy is mainly remembered for his hit in Australia for ‘MR MOVIN’ MAN’ in the late sixties and recorded at the Armsrong Studios in Melbourne. As it turned out The Harts were recording at Amstrongs in 1967. The song was movin manplayed to us by David Mackay that day. The whole production was very good.

Buddy along Marcie Jones,Normie Rowe & John Young Performed through Australia entertaining audiences their show known as the Legends of Rock from the 60s.

The show finished in 2005. Buddy still performs on a regular basis and at times joins up with his old friend and singing partner Athol Guy, they still manage to keep the room swinging.

England moved to Australia with his parents to Lake McQuarie in New South Wales but would settle with his family in Melbourne, Victoria.

Forming ‘The Kay Brothers’ with his brother around the age of fifteen during the sixties performing at most of the popular Melbourne dances and also appearing on ‘In Melbourne Tonight’ with Graham Kennedy and Bert Newton.

In 1963 Buddy went solo still appearing on TV shows and main dances in Melbourne and country regions.

Working with Johnny Chester, Merve Benton and ‘The Strangers’ they all were successful in the new TV series ‘THE GO SHOW’, the fist Melbourne TV rock show.

Buddy has appeared on most TV shows of the times including ‘SING SING SING’ – THE JOHNNY O’KEEFE SHOW – THE MIKE WALSH SHOW – HEY HEY IT’S SATURDAY and most, if not all Australian TV shows of the time.

Buddy has worked in the United States and England.

He also wrote many songs including ‘NEW WORLD IN THE MORNING’ for The New Seekes.

Also asked to join ‘The Mixtures’ to replace Idris Jones as lead singer.

Later Buddy replaced Bruce Woodley in ‘The New Seekers’in 1974.

Buddy England has had quite a long run in an industry that can be very hard, but persistance has been his vertu.

He wrote many songs for other artists that include.
