BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE
Luke Harold
An Australian experimental composer, software developer and installationist from Adelaide, South Australia.
Luke’s current work focuses on generative computer music, utilising a variety of media including acoustic instruments (up to full orchestra), electronics and video.
He is particularly interested interdisciplinary work, mostly exploring ALife methods for composition. His current research focuses on modelling the ‘social dynamics of music performance’.
A member of the ‘Live Algorithms for Music’ research network, Luke’s live electronics work aims to embody some of the aspects of improvised music performance in interactive computer systems.
From 1995 to 2000, Luke was a very active member of ACME New Music Company, premiering over 40 of his own works. Since 2004, he has been involved in the critically acclaimed ‘Project’ concert series directed by Michael Yuen. These highly successful shows have featured recent electro-acoustic works by numerous cutting edge Australian composers, interspersed with iconic experimental works from the 20th Century, for example, Percy Grainger, Alvin Lucier, Conlon Nancarrow and Steve Reich.
Luke is currently active as a composer, performer and part-time lecturer in music technology at the University of Adelide.
