Steve has been an active entertainer in South Australia for nearly five decades, starting back in 1971 as a Drummer. In 1974 Steve was drumming for a popular local 60’s style band, Jarvis. In the early 80’s he became a Rhythm Guitarist for Parallel Lines, and later fronted one of Adelaide’s most popular tribute bands The Beatmakers, with their impersonation style tribute to The Beatles, the British and American 60’s. In the early 90’s Steve embarked on a career as a Disc Jockey and MC working in many of Adelaide’s top night spots as well as many local clubs. During this period he also found time to perform as a solo guitarist, just to keep his hand in with live gigs. By 1998 Steve performed a solo tribute act (dressed in character) to the late John Lennon. It was a retrospect of John’s later years before his assassination. Following this Steve performed in a musical duo Double Fantasy, for thirteen and a half years. Steve now performs in a duo and also as a soloist. It is believed, that Steve is the only fully sequenced solo Bass Guitarist/Vocalist in Adelaide. This is a title that makes him very proud. With his experience and a great mix of foot tapping music, it is no wonder, that an enjoyable time can be had by all.
Steve Vickers has performed on the same bill with many well-known international artists; these being Tony Curtis (The actor), Burt Bacharach, The Baron Nights, The Bachelors and Gloria Loring (Days of our lives fame). He has also performed shows with many top interstate and local artists such as, Denise Drysdale, Tod Mckenney, Col Elliott, Johnny Pace and Chunky Custard, just to name a few. Steve’s musical career has taken him all over Australia as well as overseas, performing not only in high profile venues, but also in smaller and more cosy public venues that puts Steve closer to the people where he loves to be.
Steve Vickers has performed at such coveted venues as The Festival Theatre Adelaide (Main Stage – Full House), The Hilton International Adelaide, Burswood Casino Perth, Star City Casino Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane Convention Centres, Crown Casino Melbourne and The Sheraton Hotel Auckland New Zealand.
Using a compact, portable studio quality sound system, Steve prides himself on the mix and style of music that he performs and is so fond of today. Songs from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Monkeys and The Who, to Prince, David Bowie, Queen and Santana. Performing a variety of songs from the 50’s through to the 80’s. Much of Steve’s repertoire brings back countless musical memories providing a fun atmosphere, great music, and the chance to help you relive the years gone by.
