Bruce Hancock

An Australian jazz pianist.

Born: Kadina, South Australia

He has studied music in theory and practice for over forty years and continues to research the latest in jazz performance and education.

Bruce is one of those rare people who has a profound knowledge of music and yet has retained that dynamic quality which is always willing to accept change.

Bruce Hancock Quartet

As director of Jazz Studies at the Elder Conservatorium of Music at the University of Adelaide, Bruce Hancock has been responsible for the development of most of the young contemporary jazz musicians in South Australia.

Bruce also has an impressive performance record, having supported many of the world’s greatest musicians and also performing in his own right.

The Bruce Hancock Quartet with guest vocalist Luke Thompson will feature a wide variety of jazz styles, from ragtime to contemporary in a professional presentation.

Members of the Quartet are lecturers at the Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide and include Bruce Hancock on piano, John Aue on bass, Laurie Kennedy on drums and Bob Jeffery on saxophones and flute.

With great sadness we share the news that our long-time former Head of Jazz Bruce Hancock passed away in the early hours of the morning.

Bruce was a gifted jazz pianist with a vast knowledge of pretty much every jazz style.
