Young Modern

First publication 1962

Volume 1 number 1, February 15, 1962.

Young Modern began in February 1962 and became the of the most popular magazines mainly for the Adelaide teenager in South Australia. The magazine was the first to actually give the teenagers at that time their first pop magazine.

Write ups would include interviews with popular artist from Adelaide, interstate and internationally.

Also at the time the mod look was in and fashion was always a prominent item.

Reviews were also important in regards to pop music, jazz, folk. Also gig guide’s for the reader.

The magazine’s  advertisements from 22nd July 1964 and show clubs in and around Adelaide that teenagers could attend and meet at a dance and listen to music. The magazine at the time was of importance to Adelaide and the teenage market.

This magazine was started by entrepreneur Mr Ron Tremaine.

Below shows Adelaide’s Young Modern, with Glenys O’ Brien on the cover, 1962.  The cost was  2 shillings equal to 20c!
